Twelve months ago Jason Day at 21 was the new white hope who would eclipse Greg Norman and topple Tiger from his tree.
Then came the awakening, the PGA Tour ain’t a Misère Ouverte, or was it for Jason, he made only 13 cuts in 28 starts – in one three month period he missed eight cuts in nine starts. True, it was his Rookie year, he was not familiar with the courses and he was still nursing the wrist he injured in 2007. The end result … he lost his card.
Then, last Sunday, out of the blue it seemed, he finished fourth only one stroke short of contesting the three man play-off at Colonial.
"My mind is in a good spot right now," Jason said after shooting his third straight 65 on Saturday. "I just feel really comfortable with the way I am swinging."
He certainly knows the Colonial; he lives only 15 minutes away. And, maybe we overlooked his T2 finish earlier this year at the Tour’s Puerto Rico Open.
Perhaps our prediction eighteen months ago were premature and now is the time we will see them start to be realized.
He’s playing again this week in the Memorial at Muirfield Village Golf Club – purse $6,000,000 US. We wish him luck.
