Robert Allenby and Stuart Appleby hope to use their decades-long friendship to advantage to break a 20-year drought when they represent Australia at this year's World Cup.
The Victorians, mates from their teenage days playing pennant golf at Yarra Yarra, comprise the Australian team for the November 26-29 event at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, China.
"We know each other's game very, very well," Appleby told AAP.
"I think we could play well, I think we could do it."
They will be seeking their country's first win in the competition, contested by 28 two-man teams, since Peter Fowler and Wayne Grady won the 1989 edition.
Allenby said: "Hopefully Stuey and I can turn that drought around and go and win.
"Obviously we get along well and we've got similar games and hopefully we'll have a good week that week."
Brendan Jones and Richard Green represented Australia last year, finishing equal third behind Sweden and Spain.
Australia has won the competition, first staged in 1953, four times.
Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle teamed up for victory in 1954 and 1959.
