Robert Allenby to play the Australian Masters
After threatening never again to play another Australian golf tournament, it seems Allenby is softening in his old age
Robert, 38, has confirmed he will contest the Australian Masters at Melbourne's Kingston Heath in November, and is leaving the door open for the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship.
"I've committed to the Masters but haven't committed to anything else,'' said Allenby
Rob is hoping he can gain a start in the exclusive Sun City tournament in South Africa, which clashes with the Australian Open to be held at the NSW Golf Club from December 3-6.
If he doesn't get into Sun City, he may tee it up in Sydney instead joining Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott, Greg Chalmers and John Senden who have confirmed their attendance. Greg Norman has also committed to play the Australian Open for the next three years.
Robert's latest comments are a lot less acrimonious than earler in the year
"I don't need to play,'' he said at that time being pretty cheesed off with personal abuse thrown at him at last year's Open, a particularly stressful time in his personal life. "What do I need to play for? Enough is enough." .
But it seems the wounds have started to heal and that Allenby, who has been a prolific winner here in Australia and who captured the triple crown of the Open, Masters and PGA in 2005, still calls Australia Home!
