Golf Club Grips

Grips are the least expensive yet one of the most important parts of a golf club.

Our most earnest advice is — REPLACE YOUR GOLF GRIPS OFTEN!

Grips as they age tend to oxidize, harden, get slick, and LOSE THEIR GRIP. The grips with the best grip are usually the grips that lose their grip the fastest. There are soft grips and firm grips, which bears no relation to their grip, it's the way they feel in your hands. The better golfer will choose a firm grip which gives better control as there is less tendency for the club to twist within the grip. On the other hand, people with joint problems will enjoy the softer grip which absorbs more of the shock of striking the ball.

It is important that your hands feel comfortable holding the club. The larger a player's hand the larger the grip should be to properly fit and visa versa. A grip that is too small can make you use your hands too much during the swing resulting in pulled and hooked shots, and a grip that is too big may not allow you to release your hands properly causing pushes and weak slices. Ideally, when holding the club, the longest finger of your left hand (right hand for left handed players) should just, and only just, touch the palm of the hand.

Our standar Black Velvet Grip is an excellent quality grip with greater than normal longevity, and with a good grip factor. This way, if you don't re-grip when you are supposed to at least you will have reasonable grips for a longer time. But, we do recommend re-gripping ... often — it will have a positive effect on your game. Think annually at least.

Grips come in a range of sizes and are comparable to the golf glove size that you wear. The chart below is an indication..

Extra large Jumbo
Large Mens Midsize
Medium Mens Standard
Small Ladies Standard

Further, when fitting golf grips the clubmaker first applies a layer of special adhesive paper to the shaft to ensure the grip adheres firmly, by adding extra layers of paper we can make intermediate adjustment to the grip size as necessary.
